In 2009 I bought myself a metal detector (White’s MXT) for Christmas. I actually wrapped it up and put it under the tree to open on Christmas Day.
One of the first places I went metal detecting was Stone Wall Jackson Park in Holliday, Tx. It had been raining and muddy. After a few minutes I dug up an 1854 seated liberty quarter. Almost worn out, in fact, it being all muddy I almost through it away. I felt the outside ridges and looked closer. WOW! Was I happy. This really got me hooked on metal detecting.
In 2014 I became an authorized dealer for Garrett, Fisher and White’s metal detectors. Later years I became a dealer for Minelab, Nokta and XP metal detectors. One of the reasons I became a dealer was to help folks out new to metal detecting and wanting/interested to purchase their first metal detectors and those experienced interested in upgrading to a better metal detector. Today (2026) I have been a dealer for 12 years. I have sold/shipped metal detectors to every state in the ContUSA.
The first few years I only hunted parks in surrounding towns. I ran across Dennis Wynn during this time, and he told me about door knocking. Didn’t think I could do that. A few weeks later metal detecting in another town in their park. I looked around and saw all the older homes around the park. I decided to give door knocking a try. My buddy and I for the next 5-6 years door knock about 100-mile radius of where I live and door knocked. Door knocking is the thing to do to find mostly old coins and occasionally some relics.
